New lease of life for historic railway
workshops building
The Western Australia Police’s presence at
the former Midland Railway Workshops is set to grow
with an $18million, three-storey office facility to
be constructed in the heritage-listed *Flanging Shop.
Housing and Works Minister Michelle Roberts today
announced that Pindan Constructions had been awarded
the contract for construction.

In a week when old foes prepare to do battle for
The Ashes, Australian and two former British police
officers have joined forces to help fight crime in
Western Australia.
Police Minister John Kobelke attended the graduation
of seven dog handlers and police dogs at the Maylands

Bush fire season could be worst on record
Fire authorities are predicting this summer will
be the worst bush fire season on record.
Premier Alan Carpenter said today that after the
one of the driest Western Australian winters experienced
in years, residents living near bushland needed to
be prepared for the threat of bush fire.

Calendar of Events launched.
Western Australia is set for
an action packed year of tourism-related events
with the launch of the 2007 Calendar of Events.
Tourism Minister Sheila McHale said the 2007
calendar contained a broad mix of international,
mass participation, and uniquely Western Australian
events.

$1million for WA’s ex-servicemen and
women
The State Government will provide $1million to help
RSL Clubs around Western Australia as part of a two-year
extension of the ANZAC Day Small Grants Program.
Premier Alan Carpenter made the announcement at the
Remembrance Day Service and wreath-laying ceremony
at the State War Memorial in Kings Park
